چکیده

Background Myocardial T1 mapping methods such as modified Look-Locker inversion-recovery (MOLLI) typically use balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) readout, which is known to be particularly sensitive to off resonance and thus limits its utility at higher field strengths. Fast low angle shot (FLASH) imaging is known to be more robust against susceptibility artifacts than bSSFP. However, the T1 mapping algorithms that have been developed for bSSFP readout are not directly applicable to FLASH-based T1 mapping sequences at 3.0T. We sought to develop a FLASH-based MOLLI T1 mapping technique for 3.0T and validate it on a cohort of healthy volunteers.

High-resolution myocardial T1 mapping using single-shot inversion recovery fast low-angle shot MRI with radial undersampling and iterative reconstruction

OBJECTIVE To develop a novel method for rapid myocardial T1 mapping at high spatial resolution. METHODS The proposed strategy represents a single-shot inversion recovery experiment triggered to early diastole during a brief breath-hold. The measurement combines an adiabatic inversion pulse with a real-time readout by highly undersampled radial FLASH, iterative image reconstruction and T1 fitt...

Influence of Off-resonance in myocardial T1-mapping using SSFP based MOLLI method

BACKGROUND Myocardial T1-mapping methods such as MOLLI use SSFP readout and are prone to frequency-dependent error in T1-measurement. A significant error in T1 may result at relatively small off-resonance frequencies that are well within the region without banding artifacts. METHODS The sensitivity of T1-estimates based on the SSFP based MOLLI sequence to errors in center frequency are calcul...

Systolic ShMOLLI T1-mapping is feasible in tachyarrhythmia, with improved image quality compared to diastolic readout

Background T1-mapping using the Shortened Modified Look-Locker Inversion Recovery (ShMOLLI) technique [1] enables assessment of myocardial characteristics, such as oedema, scar and diffuse fibrosis. However, cardiac pathology is often accompanied by tachyarrhythmia, which may cause mistriggering and inaccurate T1 estimation. We hypothesised that systolic T1-mapping may overcome this issue witho...

Characterization of myocardial T1-mapping bias caused by intramyocardial fat in inversion recovery and saturation recovery techniques

BACKGROUND Quantitative measurement of T1 in the myocardium may be used to detect both focal and diffuse disease processes such as interstitial fibrosis or edema. A partial volume problem exists when a voxel in the myocardium also contains fat. Partial volume with fat occurs at tissue boundaries or within the myocardium in the case of lipomatous metaplasia of replacement fibrosis, which is comm...

Systolic ShMOLLI myocardial T1-mapping for improved robustness to partial-volume effects and applications in tachyarrhythmias

BACKGROUND T1-mapping using the Shortened Modified Look-Locker Inversion Recovery (ShMOLLI) technique enables non-invasive assessment of important myocardial tissue characteristics. However, tachyarrhythmia may cause mistriggering and inaccurate T1 estimation. We set out to test whether systolic T1-mapping might overcome this, and whether T1 values or data quality would be significantly differe...
